Maria Schneider was born in the small town of Windem, Minnesota, far from the jazz world in which she now lives. She received a Master’s Degree in Jazz Composition from the Eastman School of Music and gained valuable experience in her associations with Bob Brookmeyer and Gil Evans. Her innovative writing for jazz ensembles has won great critical praise and her third album with the Maria Schneider Orchestra was recently nominated for a Grammy Award.
