Bucky Pizzarelli has played on countless jazz and pop recordings over the years. He was born in Paterson, New Jersey on January 9, 1926 and played guitar and banjo as a youth, often in family jam sessions. A career in music was never in doubt and he joined the Vaughn Monroe Orchestra at age 17. Bucky moved to New York after military service and found work at NBC, ABC and later with The Three Suns Trio. As a first call studio player, he recorded with numerous jazz and popular music groups and became the guitarist in the original Tonight Show band. His duo recordings with Stephane Grappelli, Zoot Sims and Bud Freeman are among his favorites and his personal guitar style is welcomed at jazz venues across the country. Bucky received an honorary degree from Hamilton on the weekend of this interview, in May 2003.
