Alto saxophonist Lanny Morgan was born on March 30, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa. His family moved to Los Angeles in 1944 and he gained big band experience at Los Angeles City College. He worked locally and on the road with the bands of Charlie Barnet, Si Zentner and Terry Gibbs and in 1960 traveled to New York to join Maynard Ferguson’s band. Lanny was one of the principal soloists with this group, recording frequently and touring Europe in 1962. He has led an active career in west coast studios while performing with Bill Berry, Ed Shaughnessy, Bill Holman and SuperSax.
