Abstract | Description of Doolittle's life as a student at Hamilton College on pages 3-5. Diary entries begin on page 52, after an autobiography of his life up to that point.; Biography: J.B. Doolittle (1824-1880) H.C. Class of 1846 Missionary to China: 1849-1864 Justus B. Doolittle was born on 23 June, 1824 in Rutland, NY, and died on 15 June, 1880 in Clinton, NY. After graduating from Hamilton College with the class of 1846, Doolittle attended the Auburn Theological Seminary. He applied to the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions for missionary work and was assigned to the Foochow and Tientsen regions of China, a position he held for thirteen years. After returning to the United States due to poor health, Doolittle wrote several books about his observations of Chinese culture. |
